Water Sector Lead

Gamuda Engineering, a subsidiary of Gamuda Berhad (Malaysia), is a reputable Engineering and Construction contractor that specialises in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of Transport and Infrastructure projects. Gamuda Engineering has established offices in Sydney and Melbourne to pursue and deliver a variety of construction projects and is currently delivering the $2.16B Sydney Metro West – Western Tunnelling Package and has also recently commenced work on the $1.35B Coffs Harbour Bypass and the $1.02B M1 Raymond Terrace Upgrade as part of a joint venture.

The Role

Gamuda is expanding its presence in the water infrastructure sector, and we’re looking for a dynamic Water Sector Lead to drive growth and secure major projects. This role is ideal for a results-driven professional with a strong background in business development, strategic planning, and leading high performing bid teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive water sector strategy that defines Gamuda’s approach to securing and delivering major water infrastructure projects, ensuring long term success in the sector.

• Identify and pursue new business opportunities, driving growth in the water sector.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with key clients, government authorities, and industry stakeholders.
• Collaborate with consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers to strengthen project delivery capabilities.
• Lead bid teams in preparing high-quality Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and tender submissions.
• Oversee financial and risk assessments to ensure project viability and profitability.
• Introduce innovative construction methodologies and sustainability initiatives to enhance competitiveness.
• Ensure key project plans, including construction, health and safety, quality, environmental, stakeholder management, and risk management, are well-prepared and aligned with best practices.
• Support the smooth transition from tender to project execution, ensuring seamless handover to delivery teams.
• Gather client and project team feedback, using insights to improve future bid strategies and performance.

Your skills & experience

To excel in this role, you will bring a strong track record in business development, bid leadership and project delivery within the water infrastructure sector. This will also include:

• A degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent qualification.
• 15+ years’ experience in precontracts and large-scale infrastructure projects, with a focus on the water sector.
• A proven ability to secure major projects, backed by established relationships with key industry clients such as Sydney Water and Water NSW.
• Exceptional negotiation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• A results driven approach, with a focus on business growth and strategic partnerships.
